Elders

Dave Benner was born in Roaring Spring, PA and was baptized in Greensburg, PA in 1972. He is a 1970 graduate of Penn State with a degree in Forest Science. He is also a 1978 graduate of Harvard with a Master of Public Administration.

Dave is retired from the United States Department of Agriculture after 41 years of service. Due to his work assignments, Dave has been a
member of congregations in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, Tennessee, Delaware, and Minnesota.

Dave was a member at Karns from 1979-84 and returned in 2012. He has served as a deacon over benevolence for the last several years.

Dave and Sue have been married for almost 45 years and have three children, David, Jonathan and Megan and one grandson, Shepard.  Dave and Sue lived in Minnesota for 23 years.

 

 

Terry Clark was born in Memphis, TN and grew up in Nashville, TN.  Terry was baptized in 1973 at the Jackson Park congregation in the East Nashville area.  He graduated in 1985 from Tennessee Technological University with a degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE).  He is presently employed by CB&I Federal Services.

Terry placed membership with the Karns congregation in 1989 and later served as deacon in the area of fellowship before becoming an elder in 2016.  He has also served on mission trips stateside and in Honduras.

He married Teresa Fields in 1985 and they have two sons:  Spencer and Seaver. Spencer is married to Hannah (Smith), whom he met at Karns.

 

 

 

Tony Turner was born in Memphis, TN in 1961 and was baptized in 1992 at the Forest Park Church of Christ, Atlanta, GA. He graduated from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science in 1983, and from Saint Mary College, Leavenworth, KS with a Master of Arts in Psychology in 1996. He retired from the Army in 2004 after 21 years of service. His military assignments led to his membership in congregations of the Church in Georgia, Kansas, Texas, and Germany. He currently works at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Tony has been a member of the Karns congregation since 2011 and served as the deacon for youth education. Tony has been to Honduras on mission trips several times. He has served as an elder since April 20, 2014.

Tony is married to Kathy (Gomer) Turner and they have three children:  Richard, Joel and Brigitte. The Turners reside in Oak Ridge. Kathy is a reading and math instructor for at-risk children at Woodland Elementary School.  Richard and Joel are students at Freed Hardeman University and Brigitte is at Jefferson Middle School.

 

Tony was born in 1964 in Chattanooga and was baptized in 1975 at the East Ridge congregation.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s  Degree in 1988 and a Master’s Degree in 1991. He is presently employed by Custom Foods.

Tony placed membership with the Karns congregation in 1999 and later served as deacon over education, insurance, and building maintenance before becoming an elder in 2008.

Tony served on mission trips stateside, in Russia, Curacao, and St. Croix.

He married Deanna Perry in 1995 and they have three daughters:  Claire, Maggie, and Ella.

 

 

Gary Woodall graduated from Farragut High School and later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Freed Hardeman University and then Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis in 1984.  After practicing full time in Scott County, TN and part-time in Knoxville for 5 years, he established full time practice in Knoxville in 1989.

Gary attended the Karns Church of Christ from approximately 1961-1964 as a toddler. He returned to Karns in 1984 and has served in several capacities as Bible school teacher, chairman of the building committee for multiple building projects, team captain, deacon in charge of worship, deacon in charge of insurance, deacon in charge of education, and several other capacities.  Gary has served in Honduras on medical mission trips.

He met Donna Jo McAntyre here at Karns and they married in 1982 after they started dating at Hillbrook Christian Camp approximately 6 years earlier. They have three children: Tyler Woodall, Heather and husband Dustin Roberts (sons Dryden and Drake), and Haley Woodall.

 

 

Gregg Woodall, a Knoxville native, was born in 1958 and has been a member of the Lord’s church since 1968 (Farragut Church of Christ).  He first attended Karns as a child from 1962 to 1964 and then returned during his college years beginning in 1976.  He served as a deacon from 1981 to 2005 and has served as an elder since 2005.  Gregg has also served on mission trips to  Honduras and St. Croix.  He is also a member of the board of trustees for Freed-Hardeman University.  Gregg also serves on the board of directors for Ministering to Youth Conference. He has written for the Gospel Advocate and has presented at brotherhood lectureships and conferences.

Gregg married Sherrye Floyd in 1977, and they have four children, all members of the Lord’s church and seven grandchildren.  Stephanie Harder, husband Wade, and sons Wrigley and Walton, live in Union City, TN and attend Martin Church of Christ. Tiffany Dresser and husband Dan (daughters Adalynn, Brooklynn and Carrigan), Benjamin Woodall and his wife Andrea (son Luke), and Jonathan Woodall and his wife, Lauren (expecting Austin in April), all live in Knoxville and attend Karns.

Gregg, Sherrye and their children are graduates of Freed-Hardeman.   Gregg is a CPA, CVA and works in his own firm.
